Ccleaner

Ccleaner is a system performance enhancer and an internet privacy tool. It removes obsolete files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. This is a free software (freeware) program and it works very well.

Once installed, you can open the application by:

  • Double-clicking the desktop icon or clicking on Start -> Programs -> Ccleaner.

  • The main window has four sections which can be selected using the icons in the left-hand navigation panel. See the main page below.

  • CLEANER is the main feature of the program, which will allow you to optimize your system, by removing unused and temporary files. It also protects your internet privacy by removing traces of the websites you have visited and the files you have opened. By using the checkboxes you can choose to include or exclude items from the cleaning process.

You will notice a second tab at the top labeled Applications. This displays a list of additional cleaning options for third-party applications you have installed. This list will change automatically to include new programs.

  • REGISTRY is a more advanced feature which analyzes your computers registry and fixes any problems. WARNING: Altering the registry of your system may cause your system to malfunction. Never run this feature without a backup!

  • TOOLS allows you to remove unwanted software much like the Add/Remove Programs utility in Windows Control Panel. See graphic below.

  • STARTUP lets you view the applications that start running when you turn on your computer. These applications usually have icons placed in the system tray, which is the lower right-hand section of your desktop where the clock resides. Anything running here is using system resources, and most of these applications may not need to be running all the time. You can remove them using the "Startup" section.

  • OPTIONS has many preferences and settings for how Ccleaner runs. For example there's an option to run the cleaner at computer startup, so you can automatically keep your computer clean without having to worry about it.

How To Clean Your System

  • To run the cleaner and remove the files, it's a simple case of just clicking the Run Cleaner button. If you'd like to see what is going to be removed first (before deleting the files), then click on the Analyze button.

  • The output window above the buttons will display a log of the analysis or cleaning process. See graphic below.

I run Ccleaner after every internet session just as a security precaution. Visit the Ccleaner website for more information.
