Check Disk
Check Disk is a Windows utility that scans your hard drive for problems. It will also try to repair any problems that it finds, such as bad sectors, lost clusters, and directory errors. You must be logged on as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group to run it.
HOW TO BEGIN - Click the START button and double-click "My Computer". Then right-click the hard disk (usually the C: drive) that you want to scan. If you have more than one volume (disk letter), or if you have more than one physical hard drive, you will have to run the procedure separately for each one.
- Click Properties from the resulting menu, then click on the Tools tab. In the Tools tab under Error-checking, click the "Check Now..." button.

- The Options dialog window is displayed. Select both options and click on the Start button.

Note: Since you are currently logged in to Windows, you will see the following message:The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?
- Click YES to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer.
- Before your computer gets to the login screen scanning will begin. It can take 30 minutes to an hour depending on the size of your hard drive and the number of errors found.
- When finished, your computer will reboot itself again and return to Windows mode.
