Disk Cleanup for Windows 7
Free up disk space on your hard drive by running the Disk Cleanup utility in Windows 7.
A computer is a machine, and all machines need periodic maintenance to keep them running in top form. Over time, your computer will begin to slow down and become less responsive because files, and fragments of files, accumulate on your hard drive. Where do these files come from? Just about every time you do anything on your computer a record of it is created somewhere. As your hard drive becomes more full, it takes more time for your computer to find the files that you request.
To start the cleanup process, click on the START button, then go to ALL PROGRAMS, then ACCESSORIES, then SYSTEM TOOLS, then click on Disk Cleanup.

Or, you can get there by clicking on START, then COMPUTER and locating the disk (most likely C:) that you want to clean. Right-click on the drive and then click on Properties from the resulting menu. From the Properties window you want to be in the "General" tab. In the General tab near the middle of the window you'll see a graphical "pie chart" representation of your C: drive. Just to the right of the pie chart is the Disk Cleanup button.
After clicking on the Disk Cleanup button, if you have more than one partition, you will be asked which drive you want to clean.
Once you click on the Disk Cleanup button the calculating process starts as shown below. It may take a while if you haven't cleaned your hard drive before.

Once the calculating is done you'll see all of the files available for deletion. I generally select everything down to, but not including, the "Compress old files" category. I try to keep my computer maintained so as not to need to compress any files. Just a personal choice.
Click the Delete Files button to begin the deletion process.

That's it!
