Questions and Answers
Here are some suggestions for some of the most common questions I get about personal computers.
Q: My computer is running slow. What can I do about it? A: This is probably the number one complaint that I hear from most users. Click here to find out what you can do about it.
Q: I have a home-based business and I store everything on my computer. I'm afraid that if something happens I will lose everything I've worked so hard to build. What should I do to protect my files? A: I've had many people approach me over the years asking what they can do about their crashed hard drive, or that they feel they may have a virus because their computer will no longer boot up. These things do happen. But if you are prepared, then the result will be more of an inconvenience rather than a catastrophe. Click here to find out what you need to do to protect yourself.
Q: I need to reinstall Windows XP but I can't find my keycode. Any suggestions? A: Yes! Click here to find out how to locate your keycode.
Q: Help! I just upgraded my graphics card to a newer one. Now when I start my computer I get a blue screen. What should I do? A: It sounds like the Blue Screen of Death has paid you a visit. Luckily for you, the Last Known Good Configuration may be able to help recover your system. Click here to find out how.
Q: Why can't I delete all of the temporary file cookies in Internet Explorer 8? I can't delete them in the folder either. A: I did a bit of testing with IE8 and you are right, you can never really get rid of all cookies and temp files in IE8. Although it does say that if you go to TOOLS>Internet Options>Browsing History>Delete, you can de-select "Preserve Favorites Website Data". If you keep this setting checked, it will not delete any cookies from websites found in your Favorites folder. With this setting de-selected, I was able to delete just about everything in the temporary internet files folder.
Q: My Dell Dimension 2400 will not turn on. There is a Yellow flashing light by the power button. A: According to Dell, a blinking amber power button means, "A device might be malfunctioning or incorrectly installed." I know that is a very vague explanation and not much help, but if you have had any recent devices installed on the motherboard, they may have been installed incorrectly. Reinstalling them may solve it. It could also be a power supply problem.
Q: I'd like to know which is better, the Intel Pentium processor or the Duo Core? A: The short answer to your question is that the Duo Core processors are much faster and run cooler than the Pentium D. Of course they are also more expensive.
