How to Change the Screen Resolution on your PC

Can't read the print on your computer? Stop squinting and change the screen resolution on your PC.

Changing your resolution is a good idea if you're having trouble making out the print on your monitor. It's also a good idea if everything is too big and you have to scroll up and down and left and right just to see a whole webpage.

Here's how to do it:

First, right-click in an open area of your desktop and choose "Properties" from the bottom of the resulting menu. You should then see the window shown below. From here click on the "Settings" tab.

Changing your Screen Resolution

When you adjust your resolution you are actually changing the number of pixels used to create the image. Pixels are the tiny dots that make up the image on your screen. More pixels allow objects on the screen to be smaller but still crisp and clear.

Next you'll see the Settings window shown below. Near the lower left side of the window you'll see the Screen Resolution box. Inside the box is a slider that you use to make the change. Moving the slider to the left will result in a lower number of pixels, which will make the objects on your desktop larger. Conversely, moving the slider to the right creates an image with more pixels, which will make your icons and print smaller.

Changing your Screen Resolution

Use the slider to make a change one way or the other and click the Apply button on the bottom right of the window above. Your image will change and you will see the information box shown below asking you if you want to keep it the way it is, or change it back. Once you have the right size in place, click YES to accept the change and you're done.
