How To Create a Screenshot

Creating a screenshot comes in handy if you ever happen across a webpage or photo online that you would like to save. It's like taking a photo of what is on your monitor screen.

Here's how to do it:

  • To make a copy of the current active window (the window closest to you), press ALT+PRINT SCREEN on your keyboard. The PRINT SCREEN key is usually in the upper right-hand corner of your keyboard. To copy the entire screen as it appears on your monitor, just press PRINT SCREEN. When you press the PRINT SCREEN key it will appear that nothing has happened, but actually you have just copied the view on your monitor.
  • To paste the image into a text editing program like Word, Notepad, or Wordpad etc., open the program that you want to paste the image into and press CTRL+V on your keyboard, or right-click in the text area and choose the ‘paste’ option from the pop-up menu. The image that you saved should appear in the text area.
  • Click on the FILE button in the upper left corner and then SAVE AS… You will be prompted to give the file a name. Be sure to save the file in a familiar location like your desktop so that you can find it later.
  • To send the image via e-mail, open your e-mail program. Create a new e-mail with the recipients e-mail address. Type in any message that you want to send along with the image. Then attach the image file by clicking on the paper-clip icon. You will then be prompted to locate the image file that you have saved. Once you locate and highlight the file, click on the “Insert" button to insert the file into your e-mail message as an attachment. If you don't have a paper-clip icon, you can click on the “Insert” button and choose “File…”. You'll then be prompted to locate the file and so on.
  • When you have your e-mail and the screenshot in place, Click send to send your e-mail.
