Vista Disk Cleanup
The Vista Disk Cleanup utility scans the hard disk and finds garbage files and removes them. This creates more space on your disk drive and improves performance. To get to the Disk Cleanup utility, click on the Windows (START) button and type "disk cleanup" in the Start Search box. The result of the search should be the Disk Cleanup Utility as shown below.
When you click on the Disk cleanup listing the first window you'll see is the Disk Cleanup Options window shown below. Here you can choose to only cleanup your files or files from all users of the computer.
At the next window you get to choose which drive to clean.
The next window shows Disk Cleanup calculating how much disk space will be freed up.
The next window will categorize the files along with how much space will be gained if you choose to delete them. Put a checkmark next to any file category that you want to delete. By highlighting the category name, an explanation of the file category is shown at the bottom of the window.
The next window asks if you are sure that you want to delete the files.
The next window will show the progress of the cleanup. When done, the window will disappear and the cleanup is complete.
I would recommend doing a disk cleanup at least once per week. I also make it a point to do a defragmentation of the hard drive after every cleaning. An excellent way to keep your PC lean and mean.
