Windows XP Tutorials

I'm going to dedicate this page to Windows XP tutorials or how-to's. They will mostly be about Windows XP and its various versions. I think you'll find that most of these tutorials will also apply to Windows Vista and Windows 7, with some slightly different terminology.


    The Windows XP Desktop is where it all begins. Learn some of the key features.

    Since I'm sure that most home users do not backup the files and photos they have stored on their computer, let's begin with how to use the Windows Backup Utility.

    For Windows XP Home Edition users, click the link to find out how to start the Backup Utility.

    Is your computer slow? Click the link to see how you can bring it back to life.

    Another important security measure to activate is the built-in Windows XP Firewall.

    To keep your PC running like new you need to do periodic maintenance like Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter.

    If you surf the Internet quite a bit, it's always a good idea to clear out your computer cookies.

    The Add or Remove Programs utility can help you with installing or uninstalling software.

    Customize the look of your desktop by changing the Desktop Wallpaper.

    Add or remove Windows Components as needed.

    Do you think your system may have a serious problem? Try the System Restore utility.

    Are you getting a new PC? Great! Why not use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to transfer your files and settings from your old PC to the new one?

    In order to use the Windows XP Files and Settings Transfer Wizard on a computer running a version of Windows prior to XP, you'll need to create a Files and Settings Wizard Disk.

    At some point, you may need to make a change using the BIOS Setup Utility.
